In collaboration with the National Heritage Board (NHB), the Eurasian Association will host an exhibition to trace the Eurasian community’s Portuguese roots which goes back half a millennium.
Entitled “Roots of Our Community – The Portuguese in Southeast Asia”, this community exhibition will showcase the key aspects of Eurasian heritage and promote the public’s understanding and appreciation of Eurasian identity and its rich hybrid culture.
The exhibition will trace the journey of the Portuguese to Asia, explore the origins of the Eurasian community and showcase key aspects of Portuguese influences on Eurasian culture, such as the Catholic religion, cuisine and the Portuguese creole dialect, Kristang.
The exhibition will be complemented with photographs and audio-visual materials contributed by members of the Eurasian community. The exhibition will be on display at the Eurasian Community House for the period of 18 January 2012 to 16 March 2012.
