Singapore, October 18, 2012: The Whiz Times, (http://thewhiztimes.com), a Singapore based start-up launched today as probably the first one of its kind online news, information and edutainment resource for kids. The platform offers digital kids with an immersive and interactive environment that gives them an opportunity to explore their world in a simplified yet entertaining and engaging manner.
From latest news (Malala Yousufzai) to key global issues (like financial crisis) to latest scientific discoveries (like Higgs Boson), Sports (Like Olympics and other Key events in Tennis, Soccer, Cricket, Golf) interesting features for Digital Dads and Moms (like “Amazing edu apps for kids”) and important people in News (Barack Obama/Andy Murray/Mo Farah) - digital kids can now explore the real world in a safe, fun, and intelligent environment- and in a manner that is easy to comprehend and share.
“The Whiz Times provides for a fun, wholesome and safe environment for the entire family. Along with the fun, it aims to promote greater awareness of current affairs, comprehension, critical thinking and language skills amongst kids as well as offers a platform for them to express themselves.” said Shalabh Pandey, Chief Whiz at The Whiz Times. “This becomes especially relevant with the recent changes announced by the Ministry of Education in the English Language curriculum that establishes greater emphasis on critical and independent thinking and encourages higher exposure to issues that can get kids more aware and ready for the challenges of the 21st century.” He added.
Especially targeted at digital kids and families, the platform provides readers with the unique flexibility to segregate content based on age as well as content preference. In addition, kids also have access to fun, animated videos featuring key news highlights of the week, especially made cartoon strips, and hundreds of stories based on key happenings. Kids can earn reward points and are also encouraged to participate through quizzes, share their views on topics of interest as well as submit stories.
Sharing her views on the launch, Rose Manuel, a Singapore based teacher and co-founder of ‘Global Learning and Exchange Program’ said, “Academicians like us feel re-assured to see platforms like The Whiz Times that provide an opportunity for kids to be more aware of their world. As the educators behind the global learning exchange program-a platform that fosters cross border learning and education, we understand the limitations of only text book based education. Students need the right environment to learn and grow and we congratulate The Whiz Times on their launch and for having chosen a progressive market like Singapore as its global hub.”
Adding on, Chiradeep Gupta, Global Media Innovation Manager, Unilever Asia, said, “The Whiz Times’ offering of a unique online edutainment platform for kids and families that is wholesome, safe and non-intrusive, is a great initiative with huge potential. Wishing them the very best in this endeavor.”
In his final comments and expressing the reason behind the concept, Shalabh Pandey, Founder, The Whiz Times said, “The conceptualization of The Whiz Times came about as a parent when one realized the dearth of wholesome, intelligent content for kids- you often find content that is either too complex or in a completely inappropriate environment. The Whiz Times provides children and their families a safe, fun and immersive platform with anytime, anywhere access to information that can help them grow better and be more informed. We have just launched the platform and see this as a continuous journey of learning and evolving with new features and platforms that can be useful in getting our kids ready for the challenges of the 21st century.”
