Press Release: Extracts from Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong Yesterday

February 14, 2010 by mhisham · 1 Comment

Blogger’s Note: This is a pure extract from the Singapore Government Press Release. I have only selected the specific paragraph which recounts the comments made by Pastor Rony Tan from the Lighthouse Evangelism as the introduction. You may click in MORE to read the rest of the press release.

SPEECH BY MR GOH CHOK TONG, SENIOR MINISTER, AT THE OPENING CEREMONY OF THE PREMISES OF THE SINGAPORE JAIN RELIGIOUS SOCIETY, 13 FEBRUARY 2010, 10:00 AM AT THE SINGAPORE JAIN RELIGIOUS SOCIETY BUILDING

Our Constitution guarantees the freedom of religion. Singaporeans are free to profess any faith, and to practise and promote their religions. However, this must be done responsibly. We must respect not only the common spaces that other Singaporeans live, work and play in, but also their separate space, and must not run down or trivialise their beliefs. This is a key principle underpinning the peace and social cohesion that we have here. This is why the Ministry of Home Affairs had to act firmly in response to the insensitive comments by a pastor from Lighthouse Evangelism recently. I am glad that the matter has been resolved. Of course, in the future, there may still be the occasional misunderstanding between people of different races and religions. When it occurs, we must act quickly, exercise tolerance, respect any different viewpoints as being part and parcel of our multicultural social fabric and try to resolve the misunderstanding sincerely.

Mainstream Media Not Doing Aggressive Journalism/Campaigns?!

September 9, 2009 by mhisham · 2 Comments

Mainstream Media(MSM) Not Doing Aggressive Journalism/Campaigns?! This is according to Rear Admiral (NS) Lui Tuck Yew on his interview with ChannelNewsAsia/Channel5 9pm segment.

He also said that he cannot employ an army to counter(my word) the largely anonymous bloggers and website owners.

Rear Admiral (NS) Lui Tuck Yew – Let me make it one less anonymous blogger and site owner to tell you that you are dead wrong about the MSM. They behave as such because they are NOT independent! Let go of the reins, demolish all the restrictive policies with regards to freedom of speech and you will see a MSM that is different than the one you painted.

This is definitely not what you wanted. You want control. And you have it.

So don’t give us the bullshit that the MSM practises responsible reporting because we know they DO NOT report news that run contrary to the opinions of the Government of Singapore or the People’s Action Party. I do not represent or support the Singapore Democratic Party or the Worker’s Party or any other opposition parties. I represent myself in this blog post and I remain answerable for any queries you may have!

Grow some balls, Rear Admiral (NS) Lui Tuck Yew!

Singapore! Your Support Is Needed!

January 17, 2009 by mhisham · Leave a Comment

Please refer to this post I did yesterday – http://mhisham.org/?p=269  .

The gist of this post, is this. A group of artists wanted to spray grafitti at the Somerset Skatepark, where there is an area where they are allowed to spray grafitti legally. They wanted to spray, drawing inspirations from the children in Gaza who are suffering. Regardless of who is at fault, all they wanted to highlight is the pain of the children.

They are not keen on any political, religious or racial agenda.

The Management of Scape, which manages the Skatepark have informed the group to stop this activity. The facebook event have thus been cancelled.

Some of the organisers will still show up with their paints and do what they have always been doing, create art.

I will be there, with my camera, capturing everything, including police presence if any.

Time: 1pm-6pm
Venue: Skatepark @ Somerset
