Hero Has Landed

Attended the HTC Hero launch yesterday. Nice looking phone. I will be frank, compared to some of my peers, I am not really into touch phones, be they HTC or Iphone.
I like my buttons or keypads thank you.
Sitting through the presentation, I am amazed that a pattern has developed for mobile phone makers to provide a philosophical approach towards their phone design. From Nokia n97 to Samsung Jet to HTC Hero, each reveals a set of tasks & queries created towards understanding consumer needs; none of which reflected what I want anyways, mainly no touch and no qwerty pads.
I suppose I stand in that corner, isolated from all the brouhaha that has brought a lot of people to embrace this newfangled form of technology.
I suppose also, that I will let my fellow Tech65 reviewers to give you a better & much more balanced review of the Hero.

One of the wishlist of many mobile users; the kind that they wish the service providers would allow them to have, is the ability to choose which number to accept or deny calls. Currently, the only way to do that is either you allow incoming calls or block incoming calls. There is no way to determine that block based on specific numbers at all.
Another wishlist that many wished to have; is the ability to keep their phone content secret, such that important data that one does not wish anyone else to view; would be kept in a password protected environment such that even if the phone was stolen; that data cannot be retrieved by anyone else. This ability does exist but in a very limited fashion.
With the advent of GPS, there is this need for parents to know the general location of their child. These days parents see the need to equip their young ones with mobile phones; but they will be lost not knowing where their child goes after school hours. A utility that enables tracking of location of the phone remotely; will give the parent an overall awareness, hopefully this is not used indiscriminately – this is more of a social behavioun – nothing that technology can do about it.
How would you like, the above three wishlists & more to come with your next purchase of the Nokias or Samsungs or the HTCs? Now, you can. With Kaspersky Mobile Security. ![]()
If your phone comes under any of the listed supported phones, you will be glad to know that Kaspersky have the solution that address the issues mentioned in the first 3 paragraphs of this post.
In a recent press release, Kaspersky says that “… As smartphones and other mobile devices have become ubiquitous in our day-to-day lives, they contain more vital and sensitive information – increasing owner-security concerns. Offering powerful protection for data stored on smartphones in the event that the device is lost or stolen, users can completely block their device or remotely delete the data on it. The unique SIM-Watch function prevents a thief from accessing data on the phone if the original SIM card is blocked. Then as soon as the original SIM card is replaced, a message notifies its owner of the new telephone number.
Kaspersky Mobile Security is also an award-winning anti-virus and anti-spam solution that protects mobile devices from viruses, worms, Trojans and other malicious malware – making it the best solution for on-the-go security. The software scans all incoming files and monitors network connections in real-time, blocking messages from unwanted or incorrect numbers, as well as SMSes containing user-blacklisted terms. Users can schedule regular malware updates to stay protected from the latest malicious programmes. …”
