Speaking at this year’s event are several notable personalities. The following list are not exhaustive so you may refer to the event site for the complete list.
Brian Solis
Brian Solis is
a marketing executive, author of Engage: The Complete Guide for Brands and Businesses to Build, Cultivate, and Measure Success in the New Web and a co-founder of the Social Media Club.
He goes on twitter with the handle @BrianSolis while his website is http://BrianSolis.com.
Together with Jesse Thomas, he created the Conversation Prism, as can be seen on the right(image from Wikipedia). The Conversation Prism, is an attempt to lay down before the eyes, the synergy of communications and engagements which takes places between social networks.
Jesse Thomas and Brian Solis have both identified that the conversations and social networks will continue to evolve as new social networks come up.
Shalabh Pandey
I first met Shalabh Pandey when he presented at a barcamp event at Ngee Ann Polytechnic in 2009. I was excited to know that social media can be used as a conduit to further a social cause; in his case, “Collaborative Ways to Change the World”. Shalabh is the author and founder of ChasingTheStorm and consults for organisations on digital marketing strategies. ChasingTheStorm celebrates underdogs and achievers alike and features original content.
Here is a video showing his interview with Orsiso CEO & Founder, Thorben Linneberg. For this video, I assisted Shalabh to turn the video-recorder on and off!
Since then, social causes in social media have been one of my focus. After I attended the Social Networking forum last year, I wrote a lengthy article looking at four different organisations, involved in using social media to either provide awareness or financial assistance to their wards. The four organisations are Oxfam, Kiva, Ammado & Unicef. You can read my article here http://mhisham.org/?p=473.
I am really looking forward to the upcoming forum. Here are some useful information about the forum.

Turning Dust into Gold – Project Reach Causathon
July 16, 2010 by mhisham · Leave a Comment
(this is the final of three part series)
If you have read the previous post on Turning Dust into Gold, under JEDSCY & Alpha Communications, you will know of the use of a social media space, in this instance using Give.Sg as the launch portal towards various social media sites like Facebook, Twitter, Digg etc in the effort of raising donations for their adopted cause. (that is a long statement, i know. i hope there are enough commas for you.
)
However, for these groups to first initiate their donation drive, someone needs to lead the initial project. In this instance, the Communications students of Murdoch University have delegated different roles. One group will form the organising committee group, henceforth called Project Reach Causathon while the others form up the causes that creates pitches to get everyone to donate.
www.GIVE.sg was started to inspire a social movement for good, giving its online community a better way to contribute back to society and create sustainable social impacts. Every day, 20,000+ people follow this movement on Facebook and Twitter.
Project Reach Causathon defines Causathon as the portmanteau of ’cause’ and ‘marathon’ to signify that the race for cause is one long journey and that their destination is World Peace.
These students, in concert, have raised a combined total of $3,922.00 for charity.

Turning Dust into Gold (Alpha Communications)
July 14, 2010 by mhisham · Leave a Comment
[This is the second of three series for Causathon]
“Woooshhhh… 731 paper planes and counting!” Captain Jon exclaimed in excitement. It was a bright and sunny Sunday morning, but looking at the plane pictures he had drawn on the walls, the same school of thoughts entered his mind again.
Captain Jon is like any other children who are full of imagination and dreams of surfing the clouds. However, unlike most children, Captain Jon is disabled. Using his naturally creative talents to make paper planes – 731 & counting – this allows him to indulge in his dreams.

I will not want to stand in his way. If given the chance, I will also want to assist him further, by providing him the support & resources that he needs. This is where Alpha Communications come in. As part of a group of Murdoch University Communications students, involved in Project Reach Causathon, they are pitching to assist Very Special Arts Singapore Limited.
Made up of a team of 6 wonderful ladies, of diverse background, for the objective of giving life to art. Helping the special children with support & resources for the creative use of Arts, this is probably one of the toughest funds to raise donations from.
I am naturally reminded of a blog from a teacher-friend, who constantly strives to assist her students in class. The gratitude shown to her is really humbling. For a special child to be showered with love of assistance from you, that will definitely be encouraging.
While I have no photos to show of the works of the special children, here are some photos taken from my friend’s blog post.

I am definitely moved by the craftwork by her students. You can move the special children too. Please direct your donations to http://www.give.sg/TeamGIVE/VSA-Champions/causathon. Your donations will be channeled to subsiding the cost of materials and art instructors.
