Noise Singapore 2010 starts from today, 26th February to the 10th March 2010. Featuring works spanning three areas of music, illustrations & photography, with more than 1000 participants, Noise Singapore has captured the aspirations of youth of all ages.

This is the 5th year that Noise Singapore is running. The Head of the Noise Singapore team and NAC’s Director of Arts Engagement. Ms Chua Ai Liang says,”Noise Singapore have always been dedicated to discovering and nurturing creative Singaporean youths. To this effect, we have been gathering feedback and suggestions from the youths themselves and integrating them into our programme. These new initiatives are a direct result of this, highlighting Noise Singapore’s continuous efforts to be more resonant with the needs of Singapore’s youth and doing our best to give them what they need to grow in their creative pursuits.”

Noise Singapore 2010 is held on Level 3 City Square of Raffles City Shopping Centre, on a 4000 square foot exhibition space. This is space is used to showcase the final projects of 25 promising young talents, who honed their craft over seven weeks, mentored by professionals in the field of Illustration (Eeshaun Soh), Music (Don Richmond) & Photography (Lim Seng Tiong). I spoke to two photographers, Yu Jie & Rachel Wong.

About Noise

An initiative of the National Arts Council, Noise Singapore is Singapore’s foremost youth arts festival, dedicated to creating noise about the creative talents of youths below the age of 35 in Singapore. Instead of presenting these works in conventional exhibitions held at predictable spaces, Noise works will be seen and heard across all media channels such as the Internet, radio, television, magazines and newspapers, allowing them to be seen by the world, enabling the nation’s best young talents to get spotted for their creativity.

Noise Singapore also aims to unearth new talent and inspire groundbreaking content from youths in Singapore. With a series of workshops and concert platforms organised to give promising Noise artists the necessary exposure and skills, young people from all walks of life now have the opportunity to actively participate in the arts, instead of merely being passive audiences.
